Rosabel featuring Tamara Wallace | Looking 4 Men
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | July 22, 2008
The
Rosabel team of Ralphi Rosario and DJ Abel return with another
signature anthem for the boys (and girls) of summer. Featuring Tamara
Wallace (most known as the vocalist for the Murk Boys), “Looking 4 Men”
is a peak hour ode to ho’in’, trackin’ trade and sniffing after that
fine piece that keeps crossing your path. Tarara confides that
sometimes–like even when you’re on your way to see your man–you just
need a little something to get you across the bridge, so to speak, say
like during that long airport layover. Who can’t witness to that? Go
woman!
Rosabel deliver a variety of big–huge–mixes along with a little help from Craig J and favorite, Chris Cox. If Manhunt ever needed a theme song, this would be it. Listen for this at this summer's biggest parties.

Danny Tenaglia | The Space Dance
Digital Single | July 22, 2008
Ltd. Ed. 2x Vinyl Remixes | August 19, 2008
Tommy Boy
Space Bass
Jacking simultaneously into the past, present and future, the inimitable Danny Tenaglia delivers “The Space Dance,” the first new original music from the man since 2004 and the first single from his forthcoming 2xCD, “Futurism” (August 5). The track was inspired by his sets at Space, the Ibiza superclub where he will also hold down a weekly residency–his first ever on the island–throughout the summer.
As of this mailing, white labels of the track are jumping up the precient UK-based Cool Cuts chart–#12 this week–already whetting appetites for this digital and vinyl release. (The Cool Cuts is the UK’s leading tastemaker dance chart compiled from reactions from tastemaker DJs and the Cool Cuts panel.)
A very limited edition vinyl doublepack (glow-in-the-dark sleeve) of new remixes will be in stores August 19.
Ultra Naté | Automatic 2008 Remixes
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | July 11, 2008 | LISTEN
Totally Ultramatic
Never could get enough of Ultra’s smokin’ #1 Billboard Dance Club Play Chart cover of The Pointer Sisters’ “Automatic?” Here from her forthcoming remix album, “Alchemy: GST Reloaded,” are six banging new 2008 remixes of the monster hit from her “Grime, Silk & Thunder” album. From Spain comes the Tikaro, J. Louis & Ferran Remix, which for the last several months has been slowly burning its way across Europe all the way down to Ibiza. In February the mix hopped the pond where it was an instant hit for DJ Abel when he spun it at Gay Disney. Concurrently, it’s been the Gaudino and Discode mixes that have been popping off in the UK. Formerly promo-only, these mixes are being released by popular demand: DJs want, Tommy Boy listens!
In addition to the two other versions of the Tikaro, J. Louis & Ferran mix, are the the tough and tribal Alex Gaudino Mix, piano-happy Riff & Rhys Mix, a breezy super-summery mix by Discode and, of course, a fresh new gotta-have-House mix by eSQUIRE. Some good ammo here for your summer arsenal!
Look for a remix version of Karl Giant’s auto-erotic “Automatic” video shortly.
Peep the original video here.
“Alchemy: GST Reloaded” will be released in August. A double-CD, it includes one disc of new and previously unreleased mixes culled from the “Grime, Silk & Thunder” album from a host of top remixers like Morgan Page, Kenny Dope, Bimbo Jones and Quentin Harris to name a few... + a bonus disc mixed by DJ Ultra Naté herself. If you’re not familiar with Miss Naté’s ways behind the decks, beware: The woman throws down, as those of you at the Tommy Boy Sunset Sessions party during the Winter Music Conference can attest.
ULTRA NATE
Antoine Clamaran & Mario Ochoa
featuring Lulu Hughes | Give Some Love Part 1
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | June 13, 2008
A Fine French-Columbian House Blend
“Give Some Love” is a rocking big room stormer by a truly international collaboration. Produced by French house star Antoine Clamaran (you own a bunch of his singles and remixes) and Columbian–via Toronto–DJ and producer Mario Ochoa the single’s lyrics were written and sung by Quebequois singer, Lulu Hughes. Known as a rock and blues singer with a powerful stage presence, this is the third time Lulu has collaborated with Antoine Clamaran (and partner Laurent Pautrat)’s Clap Productions. Clamaran is wildly famous in France, where he DJs a regular mixshow on Paris’ equally famous Radio FG station, where Tommy Boy’s own Ultra Naté also maintains a popular bi-weekly mixshow.
Remixes here by fellow “names” including Robbie Rivera and Mario Ochoa’s brother in house: Medellin, Columbia’s DJ Fist.

Mr. Timothy featuring Inaya Day | Stand By Me
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | April 8, 2008
Third Time's a Charm For This Dynamic Duo
Hot Aussie DJ, engineer and producer Tim Dudfield (aka mrTimonthy and T-Funk) and favorite featured vocalist, Inaya Day return with “Stand By Me,” their third monster club single together. Previous singles were “I Am Tha 1” and “Glamorous Life” (with Tim under the T-Funk alias).
Check the remix credits and you know already: this one’s workin’ for ya. And with Inaya Day on the mic, fuggedaboutit!
Instantly recognizable as the voice on numerous club anthems including the now classic “Horny” by Mousse T. and her own “Keep Pushin’,” Inaya Day is one of the most crowd-pleasing singers in clubland. And she’s right here in New York City, so tap your favorite DJ to book her, and quick. The record’s got #1 written all over it and summer and Pride are right around the corner.
We’ll leave any further hype to the track and, instead, swap in a bit of trivia: Did you know that Inaya Day famously understudied Stephanie Mills in “The Wiz?” Set the stage-–and press–on fire when she stepped into the lead as “Dorothy” in New York, St. Louis, and Washington DC.
More, as always, on mrTimothy and Miss Day’s respective myspace pages as well as on the indispensable discogs.com.
X-Press 2 featuring | Kill 100
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | April 8, 2008
X-Press 2's "Kill 100": Critic's Write Our Hype
“After ‘Lazy’ and ‘Give It,’ it must seem like the X-Press 2 (well, three, but you know what I mean) have unearthed some sort of special formula for making tracks that tread the fine line between underground respect and chart success. They’ll never make another ‘Lazy,’ but their work since shows no sign that they want to. They’re happier making slices of truly classic house music like this; which are tuneful enough to succeed without even the slightest sign of watering down for the mainstream. Rob Harvey’s vocals are hypnotic, as they combine with the summery textures mastered by Ashley Beedle, Rocky & Diesel into the perfect summer track.
The original mix is wonderful, short and sweet for the charts, but still full of shattering peaks and troughs, with a bassline that thumps through everything in its wake, leaving no dancefloor unturned in its path. And while the fans of Lazy buy this because of name-recognition, the clubbing faithful will dance summer away with the hauntingly brilliant Carl Craig extended mix. This is house music at its hypnotically brilliant best!”
– TrusttheDJ.com (UK)
A brooding piece of deep house from X-Press 2, offering a good contrast to the countrified spirituality of Give It. Who said dance acts weren't versatile? As is the custom they have another guest vocalist, this time utilising Rob Harvey of The Music in a role that presents him in a surprisingly subdued light….Particularly clever is how the chanted mantra of "I feel love" is twinned with a bass line echoing the Donna Summer original in the radio edit. Meanwhile the instrumental accompaniment is subtly effective, not making much of an impact the first time round but rewarding repeat listening handsomely. – Ben Hogwood, musicOMH.com (UK)
SK8 | Amnesty
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | March 25, 2008
SK8 Returns to Give Us Amnesty
Internationally known singer/songwriter SK8 drops her strongest single to date, "Amnesty." Her earnest, heartfelt lyrics combined with the chunky, electro infused production by Trent Cantrelle and Nynex create dance floor euphoria. This track has had early support from Sandra Collins, Sander Kleinenberg, Chris Cox, and Hybrid. "Amnesty" has also enjoyed instant mixshow plays on XM Satellite Radio.
Her previous collaboration with Pete Tong & Chris Cox ("Deep End") took Ibiza by storm, and this single solidifies her international appeal as it garnered massive buzz at this year's Carnival in Brazil. The remix duties for "Amnesty" are put into the hands of some of todays hottest talent, including Cantrelle, Cox, Freaky Chakra, Dan De Léon, and DJ Trashy.
Rarely does an artist come along that lives and respects the underground scene, yet writes infectious melodies and hooks worthy of world-class pop records. Combine that talent with Sk8's stunning visual beauty, and you end up with an artist that electronic music has been waiting for.
Bit More:
Boston native and Vassar College grad first tasted the limelight with her 2000 club hit "My Imagination." Todd Terry (known for his crossover smash dance remix of Everything but the Girl's "Missing") produced the single.
Anané | Walking On Thin Ice
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | March 25, 2008
Is It Hot In Here Or Is It Just Anané?
“Newcomer Anané, with roots in Portugal and the island nation of Cape Verde, takes the stage decked out like Diana Ross, then proceeds to get down like Lauryn Hill fronting the Fugees...Combining earthiness with glamour and roots-deep house music knowledge with pop-wise diversity, Anané could be the first up-from-the-nightclub superstar since Madonna.” – Kerri Mason, "Faces To Watch: Who's Hot and Rising For The Year Ahead," Billboard Magazine, January 9, 2008.
Sharp ears–and eyes–will recognize Anané from her Superbowl XLII (2007) pregame show performance of "One Dream" with Cirque de Soleil and Louie Vega’s Elements of Life band. For the rest of us, Anané's sexy, sweaty and bumping take on the Yoko Ono classic is a fun introduction to a sophisticated new dance artist who can take you from roots to the roof in a matter of beats.
Given a disco-house mix by Louie Vega, the original deeply grooving percussive versions of “Walking On Thin Ice” were produced by Louie “Lou” Gorbea (also on percussion) with respected global dance artist Jephté Guillaume on guitar and smokin' house producer Quentin Harris on keyboards.
Look for "ANANésworld,” the debut album by this singer-songwriter–once described as a modern-day Gal Costa–out Spring/Summer 2008 on Tommy Boy.
Anané is the real deal: living, breathing and loving to the rhythm. Kind of hard not to be when you're married to superstar Grammy Award winner Louie Vega (vegarecords.net).
5 Questions for Anané:
1 What inspired you to take on “Walking On Thin Ice?” After watching one of my shows, Louie "Lou" Gorbea (producer of “Walking On Thin Ice”) approached me about doing the song. It’s a favorite classic of mine: I mean really, I sang "I gave u my knife, u gave me my life”– its great! Sometimes I want to pull out a huge knife during my shows–can u imagine? That would be ovah!
2 How did you make the song your own? By reading her liner notes and understanding that her story was very similar to mine–an artist who happens to be the wife of a legend, working towards mastering her craft. Realizing this allowed me to make it my own.
3 I don’t think anyone ever knew what the hell Yoko was singing about. What does the song mean to you? It’s a love song–a crazy one but none the less about love. Taking chances in life and in love.
4 This is from your forthcoming Tommy Boy album, “Ananésworld.” Can you tell us a little bit about the album? There are a lot of different styles of dance music on the album, so this is my global expression and the soundtrack to moments of my life.
5 You and your husband, Louie Vega clearly have a foundation of music in your lives. Is your house a non-stop conga line? It’s not a nonstop conga line but like a nightclub at home, sometimes so loud that we begin flickering the kitchen lites to give that effect. Our dog watches us as if we're crazy, but she is too!
Bob Sinclar featuring Steve Edwards| Together
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | January 22, 2008
Bob Sinclar’s Back to Warm Tapping Toes
with Another Radiant Dose of Sunny Pop
from His “Soundz of Freedom” Album
If this man could sprout wings, he would. With a tan. Oh, wait, he did that look. Nevertheless, Bob Sinclar is the undispute king of sunny, feelgood pop anthems. From million-selling singles “Love Generation,” “World Hold On” and “Rock This Party” from his “Western Dream” album to the title track and now “Together” from his current “Soundz of Freedom” remix album, Mr. Sinclar’s music radiates megadoses of innocent, straight-forward positivity of such purity you need sunscreen. And if it ain’t the season for a little sunshine, what is? (Er, if you’re up here where we are, anyway!) So kick off those boots, toss the flip-flop, knock back another tequila sunrise if you have to and get your glow on. (But no glow sticks, please.) And do check the video on bobsinclar.com, myspace.com/bob sinclar or youtube, ’cause if it ain’t the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen, ya got no heart. Even I...
X-Press 2 featuring Kurt Wagner | Give It
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | January 22, 2008
X-PRESS 2’s “Give Tt” Rocks Righteously
from Their Album “Makeshift Feelgood”
X-Press 2’s latest US single is a unique collaboration between hot alt rockers Lambchop and UK boys known more for beats, than guitars. Ron Solomozicz, editor of About.com’s Dance page got the backstory in his online interview (dancemusic.about.com): “Because we'd worked with David Byrne on the previous album and it [the monster hit “Lazy”] was very successful, we had people in our heads that we'd love to work with and Kurt Wagner was one of those people. We love Lambchop and we managed to get in touch with him and when he was over in the UK doing some shows. We met up at the studio and started working together. He was very, very friendly and very helpful. We played him a backing track and he was into it and he took it back over to Nashville and work on an idea for some lyrics. That's how it happened and we just started bouncing it backwards and forwards, adding to the song.
The song has sort of like a gospel feel to it, was that intentional?
Diesel: Yes, kind of. We wanted to make "Give It" a dance record that could be played at the end or any part of the evening, but we wanted something that had some kind of theatrics or spirituality that was really uplifting. We thought what could be more uplifting than a gospel choir? The choir worked hand in hand with Kurt's vocals because he has that country soul feel to his voice. Originally it was a poem, like a spoken-word thing, and we really wanted to try and create a chorus. Kurt came up with the idea of a chorus and then we said why don't we get some gospel singers to back that up and take it even further.
Ultra Naté | Give It All You Got
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | December 14, 2007
Gorgeous & Giving It to You
Need a New Year’s Resolution Anthem? “Give It All You Got,” the third single from Ultra Naté’s gleefully received “Grime, Silk & Thunder” is just that, packing a power punch of positivity just in time to inspire bold resolutions all round.
“Give It All You Got” was written by–and features–singer Chris Willis, who wrote the hits “Just A Little More Love,” “Love Don't Let Me Go” and “Love Is Gone” for French superstar DJ/producer, David Guetta. Delivered in a glittering package of top drawer remixes, there’s a version of “Give It All You Got” to suit every taste. Redtop delivers downtempo retro-funk, a tough little electro-inspired mix comes from Risque, the unstoppable Matthias Heilbronn bring it with full on house heaven and big room mixes from original producers Andy & Glen Evans and Chris Willis, the UK’s Soulcast duo and smoking production trio Bimbo Jones (Ciara, Annie Lennox, Gareth Gates, S Club 8) are all on the money.
In the accompanying video, our delicious diva (ya, we can call her that), continues to amp up the glam quotient. (How much did you love that “Automatic Video?!”) Working a serious glamazon/Mad Max vibe, Ultra once again prevails, though instead of cracking a whip to keep frisky, oiled, nude internet hotties in line, she prevails amidst flying fire-spitting acrobatic muscle studs, spears, and not a little architectural mascara. Look for it on youtube. Preview’s up now.
Whether igniting dancefloors, lighting up youtube or inspiring creative make-up, Ultra, armed with her newest single, “Give It All You Got,” is here to drop a little gorgeousness on your holiday.
Billie Ray Martin | Undisco Me
Digital Single | Tommy Boy | December 14, 2007
The Queen of Electro Soul Returns with
the Quirky, Dazzling, & Lush “Undisco Me”
No hype, well a little–hell, it’s Billie Ray Martin!–and we’ll leave you to hop to MySpace to brush up on Billie, whether it’s by reading the the smartly written bio, checking out more music, or–in the blog–downloading her live DJ sets, perusing recent press clips or peeping pix of that full-page HMV (UK) ad series with The Pet Shop Boys.
“Undisco Me” comes to the US after topping club charts across the UK and Europe. The Single Of The Week review (below) that appeared in the UK’s venerable DMC Update pretty much tells you all you need to know about the single that has DJs including Roger S. (they’re collaborating), Tom Novy , Joachim Garraud, Oliver Lang (Bora Bora, Pacha), Dave Dresden, David Vendetta, DJ Paulette, Sarah Main (Pacha), Oscar G, Mark Moore and many more raving.
If all you ever knew from Billie Ray Martin was her massive 1996 single, “Your Loving Arms,” take a minute to get to know her, while you get to know “Undisco Me.”
Single Of The Week: “This is a long overdue and more than welcome return, of one of thee voices of dance music. Billie Ray Martin first took club goers on a soulful high in 1989 with the absolute deep classic “Talking With Myself” which she made with Electribe 101. A few years later she turned up on the legendary Guerilla Records alongside Spooky, causing a bit of controversy with a cover of Throbbing Gristle’s “Persuasion”. Billie Ray Martin soon signed to East West and scored a worldwide number 1 with “Your Loving Arms.” Since then she has done her own thing, and collaborated with quite a few. Well now she’s back with a new album, and if it’s along the lines of this single, there’s gonna be no stopping her. In its original mix “Undisco Me” has got a slight retro feel, taking you back to those heady Balearic times, bringing a certain DJ Essentials Inc / Lisa Stansfield bootleg to mind, only Billie has done it better, never being afraid to take a chance and push forward, “Undisco Me” is properly out there, giving house the kick up the arse it so desperately needed. A quality set of remixes come from Peter Jurgens, Edison and Acid Jacks. Billie Ray Martin is the thinking man’s diva and she can walk up & down my back anytime.” – Dean Thatcher, DMC Update (UK) 5 fucking ****!
5 Questions for Billie Ray Martin:
1 What's "Undisco Me" about? Music on this planet is boring me so i{m taken up by aliens where the groove sets me free. Tedious boy and girl groups and reunions of farty old bands have made me w rite this song.
2 The last song the most in the us know you for is "your loving" arms. What have you been up to since? I’ve been releasing electronic records since, as always. Such as no brakes on my rollerskates and dead again, also collaborated with slam and dj hell, all of which information can be found on my myspace page. Ive developed my songwriting.
3 Why are you so incredibly gorgeous? I was born that way.
4 You tour not only as a singer, but as a DJ. What's your sound? Who you loving these days? I read that my thing is called electro-tech. Sounds good enough to me. It{s hard electronic music but not minimal noise. Instead i play things with lots of sounds and arrangements. But really you gotta hear it. Again there's a set on myspace. You can download it for free!
